Perfectly nestled between the Gulf of Mexico and Pine Island Sound, the romantic island of Captiva is located off the South West Coast of Florida. Accessed by a small bridge that passes from the larger Sanibell Island in the south to Turner Beach on Captiva, this is one of America's favorite holiday spots. The stunning five star hotels Captiva has are simply perfect for a family vacation, romantic weekend getaway or a glorious honeymoon.

Captiva Island has beckoned visitors for decades. Once the domain of pirates and conquistadors and home to the Calusa Indians, the lure of the white sandy beaches, warm tropical waters, pastel colored seashells washed up onto the sand and breathtaking sunrises and sunsets sets this location apart as a holiday destination.

This upscale and charming island offers a host of accommodations. From inns, condos, homes and estates to luxurious four and five star hotels that provide the most luxurious surrounds, amenities and facilities, there is something for everyone. The charming fishing cottages that first welcomed guests in the early 1930s are now historic resort hotels that welcome guests with open arms and ensure comfort, quality and typical island hospitality.

The quirky Captiva "downtown" is more village than town, but still provides fabulous shopping and great restaurants including romantic bistros and family diners. Most of the shops are located at the north end of Captiva Drive and here is an array of shops selling fashion merchandise, antiques, pottery, hand-painted furniture and unusual gifts. The Bubble Room, which showcases paraphernalia from past and present decades and Christmas decorations, is also famous for its menu and atmosphere and attracts thousands of visitors every year.

Although badly damaged by a hurricane in 2006, the many large estates, condominiums and business have all recovered. Five miles of beach stretch to the northern tip of the island, and the scenic Captiva Drive takes guests to any of the five star hotels on a scenic journey full of tropical fauna. With giant cacti and brightly colored bougainvilleas, guests will relish this Island home and absorb the pervading essence and atmosphere that leads to a relaxed yet invigorating stay. With a total area of just over 10 square miles, it is a fascinating island to explore and enjoy.

One of the country's premier family vacation destinations is the South Seas Island Resort, which allows guests to experience the wonders of Florida and specifically Captiva. The resort is located on 300 acres set amongst royal palms with the scent of tropical flowers wafting by and spans more than two miles of stunning beach. The southern part of the resort is home to a luxury spa, fitness center, art gallery, tennis complex and restaurants. Here too, guests can pick up a golf cart, bicycle or rent a boat. At North Pointe, guests can enjoy the pool complex, water sports and plenty of children and teens programs. The golf course, yacht harbor and a nature center along with plenty of restaurants are found here.

Harbor guest rooms overlook the Bay and are perfect for couples and families, while stunning two and three bedroom villas offer spectacular views over the Gulf and Pine Island Sound. The beautiful West Indies decor of bamboo and teak furniture, king-size beds with lavish bedding and spacious bathrooms create a haven of comfort.

The list of leisure opportunities is as long as one's imagination. From golf and tennis with on-site tennis professionals for private lessons to a limitless number of water sports, swimming pools and hot tubs, sailing school and cruises, this South Seas Island Resort allows guests to experience the island in just the way they would like. Nighttime entertainment is provided by live music at the bistro's, lounges and bars while the array of restaurants makes the dining choice rather difficult. The Harbor Bar and Grill serves the catch of the day and fine cuts of meat while signature cocktails are served on outdoor terraces and lounges. Lunch on the deck under a parasol, barbecues and private parties are all on offer by Captiva five star hotels.

But five star Captive hotels are not just all about holiday time as they also cater for business visitors. With their many event and functions rooms, this is an ideal venue to hosts a conference or meeting in style that will long be remember by all delegates and colleagues. The natural splendor of the island combines with the flexible event space, indoor and outdoor settings, full-business center and modern audio-visual equipment to ensure a successful event.

Guests to any of the five star captive hotels are encouraged to embark on day trips to the surrounding islands, which are just a short boat ride away. Here too, guests can enjoy sailing, fishing, kayaking, and shelling.

The great year-round weather attracts visitors to Captiva hotels. The summers are magnificent, while the warm winter days attract many guests escaping the harsh conditions further north. Only one hour's drive from Southwest Florida International Airport in Ft. Meyers or three hours drive from Tampa and Ft. Lauderdale Captiva's close proximity and easy access has also made it extremely popular. Luxury guestrooms combined with first-class services and exceptional amenities ensures that all guests have a remarkable vacation and are sure to return in the near future.
